When she's impossible to shop for, it's time to think outside the box.

We all have that person in our lives. You know exactly who I'm talking about, right? They are relatively particular (I'm trying to avoid the word, "picky"), and when it comes to the few things that they actually do want - they go right out and purchase it themselves.

So what do you do if this describes your mom, and Mother's Day is around the corner? Well, good thing you stopped in to read my post today. I've compiled 10 fantastic Mother's Day gift ideas - and my hope is that at least one of them will work for you.

  1. If she likes coffee, she will love Crio Bru. I just recently discovered this amazing drink exists, and would like to share my find with you. Crio Bru is brewed just like coffee, except that it is made with cocoa beans instead of coffee beans. Yes, that's right - it's brewed chocolate. Unlike coffee, it is caffeine free and non addictive (although it sounds pretty addicting, if you ask me...). You can order it through www.criobru.com.
  2. For the literature buff, check out some of these great finds on Etsy. Does your mom swoon over Mr. Darcy? Give her a Pride & Prejudice mug to go with her Crio Bru. If Jane Austen isn't one of her favorites, consider this Jane Eyre Brass Cuff, Alice in Wonderland Charm, or Little Women Tea Towel.
  3. Give the gift of relaxation. Who wouldn't want a great massage? If your mother truly has everything this year, consider getting her a gift certificate for a local spa. A relaxing massage or facial may be just the break she needs. This is especially great for the pregnant ladies celebrating Mother's Day this year.
  4. Don't wine about it. If your mom enjoys wine, look into signing her up for a "wine of the month" club. You can also adjust this so that you are paying for three months, six months, etc - rather than committing to an entire year. Not into wine? There are also beer of the month clubs as well, featuring different varieties from microbreweries.
  5. A little bling never hurt anyone. If jewelry is something she enjoys, I will once again direct you to Etsy! These Orchid Dangle Earrings, Mixed Fabric Button Bracelets, or this Mother's Day Personalized Necklace are sure to be a hit. Not quite her style? Pour yourself some coffee, have a seat, and spend a few minutes on Etsy. There's bound to be something amazing that catches your eye.
  6. Photos - your ace in the hole. You really can't go wrong with photos. Whether they are framed pictures of the kids, a canvas print of your recent wedding, or a photo book of the family reunion, they're a sure-fire hit with almost all moms. Check out Mixbook, Shutterfly, or TinyPrints for some great ideas. They're sure to appeal to the sentimental mom.
  7. So, you're gifted when it comes to... poetry? Painting? Song writing? Whatever your talent may be, you know that your mother loves hearing/reading/seeing it. We moms just love seeing our children bloom and grow, so take advantage of the fact that your mom probably loves whatever it is that you happen to be good at. Channel your inner child, and draw her a picture. Write her a poem. Sing her a song on your guitar. Whatever you choose to do, rest assured - it's not something she already has, and she will most likely love it.
  8. Now, what is she good at doing? No matter what her hobby, there is bound to be something she doesn't have. Is she a gardener? Perhaps she'd like one of these garden signs for golfers, dachshund fans, or grandmas. , Does she enjoy writing in her journal? Check out this personalized journal. For the cooks out there, William-Sonoma is bound to have something that will catch her eye. Check out their Panini Press, Ebelskiver Filled-Pancake Pan, or their Monogrammed Glass Dome Cake Plate.
  9. What's a classic favorite among moms? A coupon book. No, I'm not talking about a little folder to keep her store coupons or flyers from the paper. I'm talking about a handmade coupon book for the woman you're looking to celebrate, filled with coupons for things you promise to do for her. You can create "coupons" for your mom that promise things like, "One lunch together at the restaurant of your choosing," or "One afternoon of yardwork." If the coupon book is for your wife, you can give her coupons for foot rubs, nights where you cook dinner, etc.
  10. Go high tech. If you are shopping for a mom who is never without her laptop or iPad, check out some of these great ideas below. You can't go wrong with a sleek new case, a cute flash drive, or decal for the back of her laptop.

Planning a gift for Mother's Day can be an enjoyable experience - or a very frustrating one. Hopefully these ideas will take some of the work out of gift giving, and add more fun to the holiday. Happy shopping, and Happy Mother's Day!
